It would be impossible for a single reference point, such as this website, to offer social etiquette guidelines for every single possible scenario you will ever find yourself in. However, there are some simple steps you can take to ensure that in every single situation that happens your way, you are behaving in the proper and socially acceptable way.

1. – Pay attention to what other people are doing. Do not focus on one or two individuals, as they may be as clueless as you as to what they should be doing, but, rather focus on the group as a whole. Not sure what the bowl of water and lemons are in front of you when a date takes you to a fancy seafood restaurant? Take a quick glance around you and you will quickly pick up on the fact that it is for washing your fingers when eating seafood finger food.

2. – Sometimes, it pays to be patient. For example, are you at a dinner party and are not sure whether or not the host will say grace? Wait it out!

3. – It is ok to ask questions. No one will think any less of you. Nine times out of ten, they will probably be flattered that you value their opinion and expertise. Did you arrive late to a wedding and aren’t sure where you should sit? Ask!

By following this suggestions when you are at a complete loss as to what is expected of you, you will ensure you keep your reputation as being the King or Queen of Social Etiquette!
